About ADAPT

ADAPT (Chartered Physiotherapists in International Health and Development) is a Clinical Interest Group recognised by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Mission Statement

ADAPT will support members and facilitate information exchange in order to contribute to the development of culturally appropriate effective physiotherapy services world-wide, and promote an understanding of global healthcare and development issues.

Aims

We aim to support members by facilitating the exchange of information and by this means to help develop effective physiotherapy services world-wide. We try to do this in a way that promotes an understanding of healthcare in all cultures and belief systems and which is socially and economically appropriate.

How we work

In practice this means being in email contact whenever possible, wherever you are in the world so that we can put you in touch with others who can advise you on clinical, cultural, educational, or any other matters that may be concerning you. It means offering advice and information about countries you might be interested to work in and how best you might prepare yourself for that. It also means helping you to adjust to the change of coming home again and picking up the threads.

ADAPT is keen to keep up to date with where you are and what you are doing.  If you are planning a working trip abroad, or have just returned from working overseas do let us know.  If you are interested in sharing your experiences with ADAPT members, or writing an article for Frontline, please contact hannahlouissaint@gmail.com.

Where have ADAPT members worked?

ADAPT members have worked (red) - or are currently working (green) -  in many of the world's low and middle income countries.  Below is a map showing all countries where our members have worked.

ADAPT members can see this map in more detail in the Member Profiles section where they can find out a bit more about the projects in countries and the name of the ADAPT member who worked there.
